National Day and Racial Harmony Charity Ride (in support of Children's Cancer Foundation)

Writer's picture: Alvin LimAlvin Lim

Hundreds of warm-hearted riders from SG and some even rode all the way from Malaysia to do their part!!! Hot sun to heavy downpour did not waver the mood of the bike enthusiasts representing their groups, Eagle bikers, Harleys, Goldwings, and many others including the one I joined "重机车队" for my first trip with the group.

Forgive that Ducati guy, his maiden trip with awesome "Big Bike Singapore". Pending order.

Made our way to Loyang Tua Pek Kong dripping wet but the crowd was in high spirits!

Passed by this place many times, but never came in. Again, my first.

Temple provided some bee hoon, curry, puffs and dessert.

Mr Chan Chun Sing among the many guests of honour shared about why this act of of donating and raising funds is a "testimony of the kind of society that we like to see, which help to grow the next generation to have the same type of spirit, where we take care of each other beyond money."

I can't imagine my kids growing up paying taxes to the government for them to fund charities. How can they learn the meaning of lenity, if money is all they need to part for the world they grew up in? Responsibility does not mean just financial assistance. Taking the sad story of an elderly found alone in her property and dead for 3 years. Survived by many kids and none had the time? I was shattered at the fact even this news is not uncommon.

Mr Chan furthered:

"My last point is this. In Singapore, there is also a very unique way that we do things. We say that all those who are able, you can contribute your time, talents and treasures. Today, many of you have contributed your treasures – your funds, your money and so forth. I would also like to ask that if you can, and if you wish, you might also join us in contributing your time and talent, which is even more important than just contributing your treasures.

I like what he said and I hope that Singaporeans can do more than donating money. <3 In teh same breath, I strongly encourage those who wish to grow this part of their spirit for the community, please contact me privately. I can't take money, but I can use your time and talent for people in need!

PS: I kicked myself for not taking a pic with Lim Ah Boy, a philanthropist many riders knew and respect. This is not his first donation, and believe, wouldn't be his last!
